Happy Father's Day to Green Dads everywhere!
For our No. 1 "green" gift to fathers, how about buying Dad a Green Tag?
Tags are sold to directly support alternative, non-polluting, renewable energy sources, thus helping to offset carbon pollution into the atmosphere. We've talked about carbon offsets quite a bit here, but you can learn more from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation.
Now this may not seem like the sexiest Father's Day gift around. But it's certainly one of the most effective in terms of raising eco awareness and fighting global warming.
You can check with your father's utility to find out other procedures, since many are offering tag programs of one sort or another. Nothing's preventing anyone from buying tags both from the BEF and your own utility. But keep in mind that simply spending money doesn't get you or Dad off the hook. We'll all need to take proactive measures as well to reduce our carbon footprint if we're going to save the future of the planet for our kids and grandkids.
