Whole Foods, Dan Rather and the Lobster Question

A week after CBS' "60 Minutes" aired a Dan Rather interview with Whole Foods founder John Mackey, the organic grocery chain announced it has stopped selling live lobsters and soft-shell crabs out of concerns they may not be treated with compassion and respect. One of the interview's memorable exchanges had Rather sniffing at Mackey's concern for humane treatment of chickens and cows. "Some would say, What does it matter how a lobster is treated if it's going to end up in the pot anyway?" Mackey's response: "Well, Dan, you're going to die some day. Do you care about the quality of your life while you're still alive?"

Hmmm...one wonders if the Whole Foods interview had anything to do with Rather's departure from CBS. If he does do the Mark Cuban deal, welcome to the ranks of cutting-edge journalism, Dan!
