Five Things You Can Do Green for Father's Day: Day Two

Dads love to BBQ, and here's our Day Two gift in our five-day countdown to Father's Day that could help turn Dad green: a grill made from recycled steel propane tanks!

The caveat here is that outdoor grilling is not exactly eco-friendly. Avoiding lighter fluid (use a chimney stack method instead) will help. But there's a reason grilling is banned during smog alerts; it's pretty polluting.

Still, if you do it in moderation and smother the fire as soon as you're done cooking, you can minimize your carbon output. Certainly it's tough to ask Dads everywhere to knock off barbecuing in summer time.

Something to Brighten Your Day

This short video clip of goats grazing away fire brush in the Berkeley hills will warm your heart, make you laugh and give you hope. What more can you ask for from a Web link? (Give it a few moments to cache and then to go from dark to daylight, as it's a midnight-to-midnight view.)

Thanks to the ScienceVIEW Team at UC Berkeley, and check out the archive on their site for other great time-lapse clips.
